The intent of this is to guide you to assist you to configure the file transfer client, FileZilla, so that can upload files to your UConn Engineering personal web site via sFTP. FileZilla is available for the following operating systems:

- Microsoft Windows

Before proceeding, you will need the following information:
Server Name: publicengr.uconn.edu
Credentials: Engineering Username and password
Directory you are publishing to: /home/<engineering username>/public_html
For students, your engineering username is the same as your NetID. For faculty and staff, your username was provided to you when your account was created by the Engineering Help Desk. If you do not remember your username, please contact email@example.com for assistance.
Connecting to the School of Engineering Personal Website
From Off Campus
If you are connecting from off-campus, you must first connect to the VPN. Ensure that you are connected to the internet, then follow the instructions here. Once you are connected to the VPN you can proceed with the instructions below.
From On Campus
|Open FileZilla, click “File” and select “Site Manager”
|Under the “General” tab, for the “Host” enter, publicengr.uconn.edu
“Port” number, enter 22
“Protocol” select “SFTP – SSH……”Under that area, for “User” enter your engineering account username(e.g., orlando)
For the “Password” enter your engineering account password
|Click on the “Advanced” tab
Click on the “Browse” button, under the “Default local directory” section, and click “Browse and select the directory(folder) where you have stored your website files.
Under “Default remote directory” enter the following, /home/ENGR_USERNAME/public_html where ENGR_USERNAME is your engineering account username, the example below, we are using “orlando” as the username.
Click the “OK” button
|Once you click the “OK” button in under item 5, you receive a dialog box saying that your password is not saved when you want to connect each time. Click “OK”
|Now that you have set up your profile on FileZilla to connect to your personal website, we are now ready to begin connecting and transferring files between your local computer and your personal website. The left panel pane represents the files on your local computer, the right panel pane represents the files on your personal website. Since we are not connected, it is blank for the time being.
|To connect to your personal website to begin transferring files, simply click on the “Open Site Manager” icon below the “File”menu, or hit CNTL S and select “Personal Website”
|It will ask for you engineering account password, enter the password in the “Password” text box and click “OK”
|Upon successfully logging on to the server, it will ask you if you want to trust the server that you are connecting to for the session and for future sessions. Click “OK” to continue, and if you want also, select “Always trust this host, add this key to the cache”
|Once you have connected successfully, the right panel pane will no longer be blank and you will see the website directory structure. You may be begin transferring your files courtesy of “Drag and Drop.”
|To copy files to your personal site, simply select your files on the left lower panel pane, click, drag and drop to the right lower panel pane. That’s it!
You can also select different files you wish to upload, right click on the mouse, and select “Upload”
|If you receive the dialog box asking to overwrite your files, simply click “Overwrite” and “Always use this action” and your files will be transferred.
|After uploading, you will see the updated files.
