Get Started – Students

A School of Engineering account will have already been created for you upon being an engineering student or taking an engineering course.

To get started using your School of Engineering account perform the following four procedures (this will only take a few minutes):

  1. Change your Account Password
  2. Configure Your Email
  3. Create an Email Alias
  4. Configure Email for Life

Changing your Account Password
To setup your engineering account:

  1. Go to https://accounts.engr.uconn.edu
  2. Under New Users, click Change Your Password
  3. Enter your NetID and Submit
  4. Login to the NetID Single Sign-On page using your university NetID and password
  5. On the Change Your Password page create a new password and submit

Configure Your Email
You can choose to have your email delivered to your engineering, university, or third party (i.e. gmail) inbox. We recommend that you have all your mail delivered to a single location. Follow one of the procedures below:

To have email delivered to your university inbox:

  1. Go to http://g.uconn.edu
  2. Click Activate/ Reset Password
  3. If you haven’t already logged in, login to the NetID Single Sign-On page
  4. Set a password for your UConn Google account.
  5. Go to https://accounts.engr.uconn.edu
  6. Login with your engineering username and password. The username will be the same as your NetID and the password will be the one you set in the Setup your Account step.
  7. Click Choose Where to Receive your Email
  8. Select Forward email to my University address
  9. Click Update
  10. You can now access your email at http://gmail.uconn.edu

To have email delivered to a third party (i.e. gmail) inbox:

  1. Go to https://accounts.engr.uconn.edu
  2. Login with your engineering username and password. The username will be the same as your NetID and the password will be what you set it to above. If you forgot it, repeat the Set up Your Account procedure.
  3. Click Choose Where to Receive Your Email
  4. Select Forward email to an external address
  5. Provide your external email address (This cause a confirmation email to be sent to your specified email address)
  6. Log into your third party email system
  7. When the verification email arrives, click the confirmation link

Please note, the option to receive mail on the engineering system is no longer available.

Create an Email Alias
Recommended procedures
You don’t have to use abc12345@engr.uconn.edu as your engineering email address, you can select whatever you want.

  1. Go to https://accounts.engr.uconn.edu
  2. If you’re not already logged in, login with your engineering username and password.
  3. Click Your School of Engineering Email Addresses
  4. Click Create a new email address
  5. Provide your desired alias (email name) in the left text box. We recommend first.last but any nickname is OK. Leave the right drop down on the default value (engr.uconn.edu).
  6. Click OK
  7. Under your new address, click Make this your reply-to address

Configure Email for Life
Email for life is an address that we will maintain for you forever (your engr.uconn.edu address will disappear when you leave the school). You will find having a permanent address extremely useful for resume’s and publications. We recommend that you create and start using this now.

  1. Go to https://accounts.engr.uconn.edu
  2. If you’re not already logged in, login with your engineering username and password.
  3. Click Your School of Engineering Email Addresses
  4. Click Create a new email address
  5. Provide your desired alias (email name) in the left text box. We recommend first.last but any nickname is OK. Leave the right drop down on the default value (engr.uconn.edu).
  6. Change the drop down box on the left to, “engineer.uconn.edu”
  7. Click OK
  8. If you are going to start using this immediately, click Make this your reply-to address. You can delay doing this but remember to do it before you begin making professional connections that you want to keep post-graduation.

  2. Get VMWare for students
