Free VMWare Software

The School of Engineering at the University of Connecticut is able to make a various VMware software and eLearning courses available to faculty, students, and staff free for academic and research use under the VMware Academic Program. Additionally the software is free to install on any School of Engineering Lab computer.

Please note that this software is only free for academic and research use.

How do I get it?
Faculty, staff and students, can visit our E-Academy VMware Store. One can select, download software, and receive license keys from the website. The license keys are only good for 1 year. Faculty and staff can renew their keys through the E-Academy VMware Store yearly, but students cannot.

People interested in Lab Installs should contact the ECS Helpdesk with their request as well.

Help for Installation on Mac
The free Lync Attendee software is not compatible with Mac OS. The recommended solution for students with Macs to join a Lync session is to use a Windows operating system installed in a Boot Camp partition on their Mac, or installed on virtualization software such as VMware Fusion. Both of these options are free for students. VMware Fusion can be obtained from the E-Academy VMware Store, and Windows can be obtained through Dreamspark.

What is academic use?
Full details of “acceptable use” are available here: http://www.vmware.com/partners/academic/usage.html

Can I use this software after I graduate?
The academic licenses expire a year after installation, and cannot be renewed after graduation. If you would like to use the software forever, you can purchase it before you graduate at a significant discount. After graduation, academic discounts will no longer be available.

What software can I get?
What software you are entitled to depends upon your status. Students and faculty are entitled to a single license of each of the products listed below. Unlimited licenses are available for lab machines. Log in to the E-Academy VMware Store using your engineering username and password to see the software available to you.
